Top Ten Tuesday | Books I STILL haven’t read

So I’ve been wanting to give this a go for a while and decided that I finally would today! 😊

Top Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks theme:

Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (Or TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven’t Read Yet

Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk

22206“Carl Streator is a reporter investigating Sudden Infant Death Syndrome for a soft-news feature. After responding to several calls with paramedics, he notices that all the dead children were read the same poem from the same library book the night before they died. It’s a ‘culling song’ – an ancient African spell for euthanising sick or old people. Researching it, he meets a woman who killed her own child with it accidentally. He himself accidentally killed his own wife and child with the same poem twenty years earlier. Together, the man and the woman must find and destroy all copies of this book, and try not to kill every rude sonofabitch that gets in their way.”

Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

17234659“Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents’ invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse—even hurting the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions.

Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul. The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared.”

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

17399160“Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.”

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

15749186“Lara Jean keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her.

They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her, these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she can pour out her heart and soul and say all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.”

Half Bad by Sally Green

18079804“Wanted by no one.
Hunted by everyone.

Sixteen-year-old Nathan lives in a cage: beaten, shackled, trained to kill. In a modern-day England where two warring factions of witches live amongst humans, Nathan is an abomination, the illegitimate son of the world’s most terrifying and violent witch, Marcus. Nathan’s only hope for survival is to escape his captors, track down Marcus, and receive the three gifts that will bring him into his own magical powers—before it’s too late. But how can Nathan find his father when there is no one safe to trust, not even family, not even the girl he loves?”

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

3236307“Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight – she’s a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king’s thug.

When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.

She never expects to become Po’s friend.

She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace – or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away…”

Wither by Lauren DeStefano

8525590“By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.

When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape–before her time runs out?

Together with one of Linden’s servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?”

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

16151178“I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.

Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.”

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

20560137“Laia is a slave.

Elias is a soldier.

Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.”

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen

23009402“Peyton, Sydney’s charismatic older brother, has always been the star of the family, receiving the lion’s share of their parents’ attention and—lately—concern. When Peyton’s increasingly reckless behavior culminates in an accident, a drunk driving conviction, and a jail sentence, Sydney is cast adrift, searching for her place in the family and the world. When everyone else is so worried about Peyton, is she the only one concerned about the victim of the accident?

Enter the Chathams, a warm, chaotic family who run a pizza parlor, play bluegrass on weekends, and pitch in to care for their mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Here Sydney experiences unquestioning acceptance. And here she meets Mac, gentle, watchful, and protective, who makes Sydney feel seen, really seen, for the first time.”

I have no excuse. Some of these have been on my TBR for 3 years, some just under a year. I literally have more books on my TBR than books I’ve read and no matter what it just keeps getting longer. So many books, so little time!

What about you guys? Are any of the above books on your TBR?

Link me to your Top Ten Tuesday so I can see them. 😊

    • I keep hearing that a lot of people didn’t like The Sear of Tranquility, definitely a little hesitant to pick up for myself now 😂. I really need to read both of them soon! I’ve heard such great things about them. I plan on trying to pick An Ember in the Ashes up within the next month or so. 😊

    • I’ve almost bought Half Bad so many times. I see it every time I go into the bookstore and I’m tempted, but I never have. Hopefully I get around to reading both of them one of these days. There are so many books and just not enough time!

Oh no! That’s not good 😂.

      • I like the concept too and hear the same things!

Yes! I’d get more read. I miss the summers when I didn’t have a job and had zero responsibilities. I would stay up all night reading and almost always read a book a day. Good times! 🙈

      • Oh, I know, right? What I wouldn’t give to be in high school again. I loved being able to do what I wanted in the summer. What a good time. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was those summer reading lists. The books were always awful.

      • You’re so lucky. I had a summer reading list from I think 5th or 6th grade until I graduated from high school. And they made us read about 6-8 books. It was painful. 😂 And we had quizzes on each book the first week of school.

        Liked by 1 person

      • That’s crazy! The one time we had a list they only made us read one book. 6-8 is a lot to expect from students during the summer that would much rather be doing anything but something for school. That’s terrible. I would have cried.

  1. ‘An Ember in The Ashes’ is amazing. Like crazy amazing. ‘Half Bad’ and ‘Graceling’ are wonderfully written. ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ is an enjoyable contemporary that I really like!! The sequels aren’t that great though. Good luck with reading these books😉

  2. To All The Boys is so cute!! I hope you like it. I read Sea of Tranquility and didn’t like it much but then again that’s like my unpopular opinion because a lot of people loved it. I wonder how you’ll feel about it!

    • I’ve heard a lot of good things about To All The Boys. I don’t even know why I still haven’t picked it up. I feel like it’s because I read more fantasy than contemporary lol. I’m definitely going to try to get around to it before the year is over though! As for Sea of Tranquility, I’ve actually read so many mixed things about it. It’s probably one of those books that you either really love or really don’t. I might try to pick it up within the next few months just to see what I think of it. 😊

  3. The sea of tranquility sounds awesome but I read bad reviews 😦 My pending book is The Other Boleyn girl, always wanted to read it and i still haven’t!

  4. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and a bunch of the other books you chose are on my TBR list as well! I’m so curious about Graceling; I’ve seen a ton of great reviews of it! Happy reading! 😀

    • I’ve seen a lot of great reviews for it as well! And I’ve almost picked it up so many times. Not sure why I still haven’t. Hopefully I get around to it one of these days though! Happy reading to you too. 😃

  5. I read Graceling years ago on a whim because I found a copy of it at the library, and I loved it! It’s such an exciting fantasy story that really sucks you in. There are also two other companion books– I think they take place within the same fantasy “world,” but the main characters are different in each one. They’re great as well!

    • I need to read Invisible Monsters! I want to read the majority of his books and have even read half of Damned (Which was really interesting and I’m not sure why I never finished it.). I think the next time I’m in the used bookstore I’m going to have to buy a few of them. 😊

I really do need to read Saint Anything. I’ve had it on my shelf since it released. 🙈

  6. These are some seriously good picks, I loved a lot of these books so I hope you will when you get around to them!
Ten Thousand Skies Above You is an all-time favourite of mine, and An Ember in the Ashes quicly joined that list after I read it last week! I also really enjoyed Snow Like Ashes and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before so I hope you really love them all as well! 🙂
I’ve heard some good things about Wither, and I need to read the rest of Sarah Dessen’s books (including Saint Anything) that were released after Lock and Key, but she’s an amazing YA contemporary author so I have high hopes for all her books still on my to-read list. 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    • Thank you, I hope so too! 😃

I’ve heard so many great things about all of those, especially Ten Thousand Skies Above You and An Ember in the Ashes. I’m really hoping to be able to make time for both of them after next month.

Same! I’ve only actually read four of Dessen’s novels – This Lullaby, Dreamland, Just Listen, and Lock and Key. I loved all of them so much! So, I really need to get around to the rest as well. 😊

      • I was a little late getting around to TTSAY but I started it because of what other people had said to me about it and I don’t regret it at all. It’s an amazing book! Same with AEITA as well actually! 😀
I haven’t read Lock and Key but I have read the others (and a few others of her released before Just Listen). I can’t wait to get around to the rest of her books. I’m sure they’re going to be amazing! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      • I honestly don’t think I’ve heard a single bad thing about either of them so I’m really excited to finally read both. Besides both of them I plan on binge reading the ToG books. So my TBR has officially been taken over after next month. 😂

        I can’t wait either! She’s a incredible author. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      • Well that’s definitely saying something positive about both books! Even without reading reviews sometimes if you see a lot of five-star reviews you know it’s likely to be good!
Ha I binge read the ToG books but now I’m suffering having to actually wait for the next one to be released!
        Oh she definitely is! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      • True! Though there are those rare times when I end up not liking a book no matter the rating. I usually try to take it with intrigue and a grain of salt so I don’t get my expectations too high.

I’ve almost picked of ToG so many times since I read ACOTAR just because of how much I love the author’s writing but time and time again people are like “No wait until the last book is released! The wait will be torture!” so I’m forcing myself to wait. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      • Well yeah that’s always a good idea. I should start doing that with some hyped books because I really don’t want to be disappointed by them.
I think as soon as I finished ACOTAR I had to jump straight into the ToG series because I needed more, and yeah now the wait is unbearable so remember it could be worse! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      • I think the best feeling is getting an email telling you that your book has shipped. Well maybe next best to actually receiving the book in the mail. 😂

I actually have it preo-rdered as well! Except for from B&N because I had a gift card. I also bought the other books. I’m preparing for my binge reading! lol

        Liked by 1 person

      • I live for those emails, the only better ones are from Amazon when they tell you your book is being delivered that day!
But yeah ultimate best is actually receiving the book itself!
I have tons of books in my Amazon basket just waiting for me to press the ‘confirm order’ button! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      • I have a ton I want to buy – I haven’t put them in my Amazon basket because I don’t trust myself not to hit the confirm order button right now. And I have to be patient and wait until I get paid. 😂

This month and next month as well as October are becoming big book buying months. So many great books are being released!

        Liked by 1 person

      • Putting them in my Amazon basket makes me feel like I’m one step closer to buying them and one step closer to actually having them you know!
Same here, 2016 has been a great year for book releases so I can’t wait to see what else comes out! 😀

  7. I loved half bad and an ember in the ashes, I really need to get my hands on the next book. I’ve been meaning to read ten thousand skies above you for awhile the cover is beautiful

    Liked by 1 person

    • Everyone keeps saying how they loved both Half Bad and An Ember In The Ashes – I’m thinking those need to be moved way up in my TBR lol. Though I’m planning on getting to An Ember In The Ashes next month. 😊

Same! And yes the cover is so gorgeous! 😍

      Liked by 1 person

  8. Ten Thousand Skies above You has been on my shelf for almost a year because I’ve been waiting until the last book comes out to read it but I’ve been absolutely dying to read it. Also, I’ve heard so many god things about To All The Boys I’ve Loved so good thing it’s finally on its way to me along with An Ember In The Ashes. I seem to be so behind on so many hyped books, can’t wait to read them though!
