Waiting On Wednesday #20 | An Enchantment of Ravens

newWOW.png

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming book releases that you’re eagerly anticipating!

This week I’m spotlighting An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson. I stumbled across this one a few weeks back and two words had me sold on it before I even finished reading the synopsis – fair folk. I’ve probably said it a million times now but any book with faeries is one that I automatically add to my TBR. That plus the fact that this book sounds like it’s going to be incredible has me beyond excited to read it once it’s released.

30969741Release Date: September 26th, 2017
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Goodreads Synopsis:

Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized among them. But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes – a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunt’s ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then love, violating the fair folks’ ruthless Good Law. There’s only one way to save both their lives, Isobel must drink from the Green Well, whose water will transform her into a fair one—at the cost of her Craft, for immortality is as stagnant as it is timeless.

Isobel has a choice: she can sacrifice her art for a future, or arm herself with paint and canvas against the ancient power of the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.

This week I’m spotlighting The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Which actually doesn’t release until 2018 but, well, I’m really excited for it and want to feature it now. I was recently recommended Holly Black’s books and when I checked Goodreads and stumbled across this one it automatically went on my TBR. One, I love faerie books. This week I’m spotlighting a fantasy standalone that I’m highly anticipating, The Wood by Chelsea Bobulski. I discovered this while browsing NetGalley last week and was instantly drawn in by the synopsis and the mention of a portal and how kind of dark it all sounds. I’ve not seen much about it but from the reviews on Goodreads so far it definitely seems like one to watch out for. I can’t wait to read it!

27258139Release Date: August 1st, 2017
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Goodreads Synopsis:

After her father goes missing in the woods that they protect, Winter tries to seek the truth in what happened, why the wood is changing, and what it all has to do with the arrival of a mysterious stranger in this thrilling YA debut.

Waiting On Wednesday #16 | Words On Bathroom Walls

newWOW.png

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming book releases that you’re eagerly anticipating!

It’s been a long time since I last did Waiting On Wednesday. I stopped doing it because most of my anticipated reads were for 2017 and didn’t have blurbs. Alas, it’s 2017 and I have a whole slew of new anticipated reads so I’m going to start doing it again.

This week I’ll be spotlighting Words On Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton. I stumbled across this title while surfing NetGalley one day and automatically added it to my TBR because of the fact that the main character has schizophrenia. I’ve yet to find a YA contemporary that has great representation as far as schizophrenia goes but I’ve been seeing some positive reviews so I have hope for this book.

25695640
Release Date: July 4th, 2017
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Goodreads Synopsis:

Fans of More Happy Than Not, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and It’s Kind of a Funny Story will cheer for Adam as he struggles with schizophrenia in this brilliantly honest and unexpectedly funny debut.

Adam has just been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He sees and hears people who aren’t there: Rebecca, a beautiful girl who understands him; the Mob Boss, who harasses him; and Jason, the naked guy who’s unfailingly polite. It should be easy to separate the real from the not real, but Adam can’t.

Still, there’s hope. As Adam starts fresh at a new school, he begins a drug trial that helps him ignore his visions. Suddenly everything seems possible, even love. When he meets Maya, a fiercely intelligent girl, he desperately wants to be the great guy that she thinks he is. But then the miracle drug begins to fail, and Adam will do anything to keep Maya from discovering his secret.

This week I’m spotlighting The Struggle (Titan #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am beyond excited for this book. Excited to the point of freaking out and dropping everything every single time the author posts something about it on her FB group. Sadly there isn’t a blurb for it yet and as it is the third book in the series I’m also going to use this post as a bit of a recommendation for the series.

This week I’m spotlighting RoseBlood by A.G. Howard. I am beyond excited for this book! The second I heard that it was a Phantom of the Opera retelling I knew I was going to want to read it. I’m a huge Phantom of the Opera fan. Combine that with the fact that the synopsis sounds incredible and there goes another spot on my most anticipated releases list for next year. I can’t wait! Plus, look at that cover! 😍

Hoping creative direction will help her, Rune’s mother sends her to a French arts conservatory for her senior year, located in an opera house rumored to have ties to The Phantom of the Opera.

At RoseBlood, Rune secretly befriends the masked Thorn—an elusive violinist who not only guides her musical transformation through dreams that seem more real than reality itself, but somehow knows who she is behind her own masks. As the two discover an otherworldly connection and a soul-deep romance blossoms, Thorn’s dark agenda comes to light and he’s forced to make a deadly choice: lead Rune to her destruction, or face the wrath of the phantom who has haunted the opera house for a century, and is the only father he’s ever known.

A. G. Howard brings the romantic storytelling that Splintered fans adore to France—and an entirely new world filled with lavish romance and intrigue—in a retelling inspired by a story that has captivated generations. Fans of both the Phantom of the Opera musical and novel, as well as YA retellings such as Marissa Meyer’s Cinder, will devour RoseBlood.

This week I’m spotlighting Fire In You (Wait For You #6) by Jennifer L. Armentrout! Which I am extremely excited for but also kind of feeling sad about because it’s the last book. I’ve grown so attached to the characters and each new book brings with it the old characters along with new ones that I end up attached to as well. This one in particular is bringing back some characters that I really love so tears are sure to ensue. Either way, it’s by JLA so I know it’s going to be amazing and that I am going to love it! 🙈

20980797Release Date: Nov, 28th, 2016

Genre: NA, Contemporary, Romance

Goodreads Synopsis:

From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J.Lynn, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the past sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.
