Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming book releases that you’re eagerly anticipating!

This week I’m spotlighting Tarnished City (Dark Gifts #2) by Vic James. At the end of last year/beginning of this year I had the opportunity to read and review the first book in the series, Gilded Cage, early and I ended up loving it so much. It was my first five star read of the year and left me wanting to have the second book in my hands ASAP. So, you know, I am beyond excited for this book. Counting down the days and wishing it was September already excited. Which means I had to do a Waiting on Wednesday post for it. I just really can’t wait to find out what happens next!

33192012Release Date: September 5th, 2017

Teenage siblings and would be revolutionaries – one imprisoned, the other desperate for aid – have seen their magical allies stripped of their power. While the mysterious young aristocrat has revealed the incredible extent of his dark gifts.

  1. Great pick for this week Melissa. 😀 I am so so excited for this book for pretty much the same reasons you said you were. I know we’ve already had a conversation about Gilded Cage after we both read it but after the way that one ended you better believe I am counting down the days until its release, hoping NetGalley will put up a UK ARC (have you requested the US one?) so I can request it, read it early, and find out what’s happening to Luke that little bit sooner!
This is definitely one of my most anticipated releases for the second half of the year, and I reckon it will be a favourite read of mine for 2017 as well! 😀 ❤

    • Thanks so much, Beth!! 😁 Right? That ending was torture because it ended right when things we’re getting exteremly serious. Perfect place to cliffhanger a book but also torture because the wait. Luckily we didn’t have to wait a whole year lol. I so hope they get a UK ARC on NetGalley soon. I did request the US one but haven’t been approved yet. I’ve been obsessively checking my email because of it. 😂
Same! It’s most likely going to be a favorite of mine too. Here’s to hoping the second one doesn’t end in a cliffhanger too lol. 😊

      • That’s all right, and yeah it was pure torture (at the time of reading it though I was still waiting for ACOL to be released so not the worse cliffhanger I had to live through last year!) God yes I am so glad we don’t have a year to wait, that would just make the whole thing even worse. Then again the wait we have still feels too long at times.
Ha, I do that when I have a request pending. I’m keeping my fingers crossed you get approved soon, and that they put up a UK edition soon as well! 🙂
If the second one does I may have to stage a revolt. Then again I have a feeling the second one will! 😀

      • Even though I didn’t have to wait for ACOL I honestly think the only thing that will top that cliffhanger is possibly TBS4’s ending. 😂 It would but yeah it does still feel like a long time. The anticipation of the next book! Mainly I just want Luke to be okay and Jackson because his power got stripped and who knows what will happen with him after that.
Right? I have a feeling it will too. 2017
just seems like the year for cliffhangers for some reason. 😂

      • I’m withholding judgment until we get to TBS4 cliffhanger. At the moment I can’t imagine one worse than what was in AGOS but I can probably count on Samantha Shannon to prove me wrong!
The anticipation for the next book is high. I am worried about Jackson don’t get me wrong but at the moment I’m more worried about Luke!
Well hopefully not too many cliffhangers. If not 2018 will be a year of unbearable waiting and I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle that!

      • If anyone can it’s Samantha Shannon! Honestly, at the moment, I can’t see any cliffhanger being worse than the one I just read in LoS. It was brutal. Beyond brutal. And now to wait until 2019 for the last book… 😖 Now I feel like I know what you went through having to wait for ACOL after AGOS.
I agree, definitely more worried about Luke than Jackson. Here’s to hoping they get him out of there!
True. Not to mention if we have to wait longer than a year for some books after they’ve ended in a cliffhanger.

      • In that case would you say the cliffhanger in LoS was worse than the cliffhanger in AGOS or not as bad? Yeah a wait like that is always terrible, and why I likely won’t be starting Lord of Shadows until 2019 at the earlier!
I want both of them to be OK, but I feel Luke ended the first book in a much worse place than Jackson did.

      • I would definitely say the LoS cliffhanger is worse than the AGOS cliffhanger. Way worse. 🙈 Though you’ll have to let me know what you think whenever you do read LoS.
I agree, Luke did end up in a worse place than Jackson did.

    • You should so give it a try. It puts a fresh and interesting spin on dystopias for sure, which is a genre I haven’t been much into for a while.
YAY!!!! I’M SO HAPPY THAT YOU’RE LOVING I’LL MEET YOU THERE! That’s awesome! It’s such a great book, isn’t it? I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it, Marie!! 😁♥

    • You should so read it, Azia!! I have a feeling you could enjoy it. And I think it brought a lot of freshness to the dystopia genre which is one that’s been worn out for a while now. That and the characters are very interesting. 😁

      • I’m up for anything that rejuvenates the dystopian genre! I haven’t read one in a while 🙂 And good characters are always a plus! I’ll add it to my summer read list 🙂
