How are we nearly half way through 2017 already?
I can’t believe April is already over. I swear all I did was blink and suddenly it’s May and we’re almost half way through 2017. Is it just me or is this year going by extremely fast? I wish it would slow down a little because there are so many books I want to read before the year is over with 🙈. That aside, April was a busy month where I used reading to procrastinate on everything. Because, you know, when you want to avoid things the proper thing to do is crawl into your reading hole and pretend said things don’t exist. Although, due to what I call ‘stress reading’ I ended up reading way more than I have in a long time. In fact, during the last four days of the month I binge read four books. That hasn’t happened in years! I kind of veered a bit off of my TBR though and didn’t get to The Night Circus like I wanted to (hopefully soon). Being a tad stressed and busy aside I’d say it was a successful reading and blogging month! 😁

-Read But Didn’t Review/Reread-
Torn (Wicked #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
(4/5)
Another JLA book this month. I always end up binge reading her books in a day and during a time when I can’t stop to write a review. However, it was such a good book! I’ve not read a lot of darker faerie books but I seriously love that her’s have that element. I so can’t wait for the last book to be released!
A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR #2) by Sarah J. Maas [REVIEW] (AKA my most reread book. I lost count after the 15th time. 🙈)
(5/5)
I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios [Reccomendation]
(5/5)
Real, Mine, and Remy (Real #1-3) by Katy Evans
(3/5)
I binged all three of these in three days so it’s safe to say that I enjoyed them. However, they were so full of tropes and very over dramatic at times. Plus, possibly had some bad mental illness rep. Even with pretty good writing and interesting characters I couldn’t justify over a 3 star rating.
Dragon’s Lair (Wind Dragon’s MC #1) by Chantal Fernando
(4/5)
I actually really loved this one! I have a minor addiction to biker NA novels and ended up binge reading this one in a few hours. It was a bit cliche and possibly had some insta-love but I ended up enjoying it despite that. My only problem was that the beginning felt like I had been dropped into the middle of the story rather than a beginning. It took me a little bit to get into it because of that.

I’m betting my favorite read for April is completely obvious- A Conjuring of Light. Seriously, the perfect ending to an incredible trilogy! I’m still not over it. I will never be over it!
-Haul-
So, remember that whole only buying books whenever I’m going to read them soon thing? HA. How long did that last guys? Five seconds? In my defense, most of these books were either $2 or free. (Because Kindle Deals are my weakness. 🤦)
- A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by V.E. Schwab
- Red Rising (Red Rising #1) by Pierce Brown
- The Bone Witch (The Bone Witch #1) by Rin Chupeco
- The Mortal Instruments Coloring Book
- The Gatekeeper’s Sons (Gatekeeper’s #1) by Eva Pohler
- Flamecaster (Shattered Realms #1) by Cinda Williams Chima
- The Faerie Guardian (Creepy Hollow #1) by Rachel Morgan
- Fire in Frost (Crystal Frost #1) by Alicia Rades
- The Gifting (Gifting #1) by K.E. Ganshert
You see that gif? That represents how May is going to go reading wise for me because two of my most anticipated books are out and I’m preparing to feel all of the feels and have major book hangovers. I might not even be on much this week because I’ll be in my reading hole binge reading A Court of Wings and Ruin. So, if you guys don’t hear from me until the middle or end of the week you can assume that A) the book has killed me B) I’m trying to process what I’ve just read or C) I’m catching up on my sleep from having stayed up all day and night to read it. Any of the above is plausible but a mixture of B and C is most likely.
-TBR-
Aside from being way too excited to read the above two lovelies, I’m sticking to the same blogging plan I’ve been sticking to the past two months. A monthly discussion, monthly recommendation, alternating memes, a few reviews, and a bunch of being spontaneous. I’ve finally gotten back into posting two to three times a week and plan on keeping that up as well.
Also, here’s to hoping I don’t hit a reading slump! With two very highly anticipated reads I’m a little worried. 😂
I hope everyone had an incredible April full of great reads and that you all have an even better May! 💕
What books did you read in April? What was your favorite? Did you have a good blogging month or just a good month in general? What do you plan on reading in May? 😊
Gahhh so excited for ACOWAR!!!! I am glad you didn’t hate Tamlin either. I am VERY eager to see what happens with him in the finale. Also, SO GLAD you loved ACOL. It was such a great finale!

Have you started it yet!? I’m almost 40% into the book and OH MY GOD! It’s so good! And ACOL was an incredible finale. Seriously, never been happier with the ending of a trilogy before. 😊

Great recap for this month Melissa. 🙂 I am so so excited for ACOWAR, I haven’t had a chance to re-read ACOMAF but I’m still going to dive into the third book as soon as I get my hands on it. I’m pretty sure I remember enough to understand the story and all the characters still. Also I really hope you end up enjoying Lord of Shadows, I know how excited you are for that book as well.
Again I am so so glad you read the Shades of Magic books, and that you ended up enjoying them so much as well. I’m really glad ACOL made your favourite book of the month list. 😀
You managed to get through a fair few books this month, more than I did I think. And yeah definitely agree this year is going so quickly, we’re nearly halfway through and I feel like I’ve done nothing with 2017 so far!
I hope you have an amazing May, then again with books like ACOWAR and LoS being released that’s kind of a guarantee right? 😀 ❤

Thanks so much, Beth!! 😁 And I know I already asked you in another comment about ACOWAR but… Are you enjoying it so far!? I’m nearly halfway through at this point and just bursting to talk about it with you once we’re both finished. I feel like so much is happening and being revealed that it’s going to be tough to write a review. Also, I’m still kind of scared for the ending. 🙈 I hope so too about LoS! Though knowing Cassandra Clare it’s going to be amazing.
Me too! After all the times you and Reg told me they were incredible I’m so glad I ended up loving them just as much. And there was no way any book was topping ACOL this month. That book was just too perfect! I think a big reason I got through so many books is because my end of the month reads were short and I always read NA quickly. Same about feeling like you’ve done nothing! I feel that way too. It’s like time is just slipping away this year.
I hope you have an amazing May too! But, yeah, with ACOWAR and LoS (especially ACOWAR) I’m thinking it’s going to be a great month. 😊♥

That’s all right, and yes I am really really enjoying it so far, no where near prepared for how it’s going to end but god it’s been an adventure up until this point. I should finish it tomorrow morning sometime. There is definitely so much happening, and yeah it’s going to take a while to review this one isn’t it? 🙂
I did worry maybe we built your expectations too high but I think it’s hard to expect more from the Shades of Magic series that we’re given you know? I’m glad to hear it’s been your favourite book this month, and if you had read a book that topped it I’d need to know immediately what one it was! 😀
Ahh, I find that with YA contemporary books sometimes. 🙂
With ACOWAR it’s impossible for this to be a bad month, and you have LoS to look forwards to as well! 😀 ❤

Definitely an adventure! And extremely intense. I don’t think I was prepared for how intense ACOWAR has been. I still have 30% left and am not past the whole High Lords meeting but were you completely shocked when Tamlin showed up!? I’m still reeling over that whole scene a little bit so I had to ask you. My jaw dropped! I don’t think a book has ever shocked me that much before. 😂
It really is going to be a hard book to review. I might have to sit on it for a few days once I finish it and gather my thoughts.
Nah you guys didn’t. 😊 Even though I was really excited I forced myself not to get my expectations too high. Just in case, you know? And that’s why it ended up completely surprising me.
Exactly!! 😁♥

I definitely wasn’t prepared for ACOWAR, or how intense it was. I’m assuming you’re past the 70% mark but all I will say either way is that it gets so so so much more intense! I was definitely shocked when he did, but seriously Tamlin arriving has nothing on what’s to come.
That’s what I’ve done this weekend. I’m planning on writing my review tomorrow because by then I should have my thoughts in order. 🙂

Now that I’ve finished it I can see what you mean about Tamlin arriving having nothing on everything else to happened. But I swear between Tamlin and Jurian I’m in shock over how easily it is to make up your mind about a character only for them to completely surprise you. And I’m still reeling over the last 7 chapters. Especially chapter 76 and 77… They made me cry more than any book has ever made me cry before. But it was just such a perfect ending!
Which, speaking of ACOWAR, did you get the preorder map? Because I have an extra one from having forgotten I filled out the preorder and then ordered the Target edition that the map comes with. If you didn’t and want it then I’ll send it to you. 😊

Yeah if you’d reached the end of ACOWAR and still thought that was the most shocking part I would have wondered what book you’d been reading! 😀 Yes I am definitely still reeling, and I think even though I don’t like Tamlin’s character still I respect him a little now, a begrudging respect but in the end he made the right decision and that counts for something.
Oh that would be amazing Melissa! 😀 ❤ I didn't actually get the pre-order map (I'm not sure if I didn't notice the pre-order promotion or they just weren't doing it in the UK but I completely missed it) but yeah. Do you want me to email you my address! Thanks so so much! 😀 ❤

I would have too! But honestly you should have seen my reaction when Tamlin showed up to the High Lords meeting. I sat up really quickly and nearly screamed holy shit out loud. I was so shocked! 😂😂 But it really didn’t hold a candle to everything else that happened. I completely agree about Tamlin, I definitely gained this reluctant respect for him by the end. Still don’t like him, possibly even less so than I did in ACOMAF but SJM gave him some redemption. It was nice to see him finally put Feyre before himself. To put anyone else above his own want, you know? He definitely made the right choice in the end.
No problem! I knew once I found out I had two if you didn’t get one I was so going to send it to you. Yeah, send me you address in an email and I’ll get it sent out to you around the end of the month (since I have to wait for my check first). 😁♥

Part of me knew he’d turn up to the meeting. Simply because it was all the High Lords in one place for the first time since Under the Mountain so really Tamlin couldn’t not be there. If anything I was more surprised when it was hinted at that he wasn’t going to turn up.
Oh I’m not a major fan of him either, but I like hi a little more at the of ACOWAR than I did at the end of ACOMAF. I wonder if we’ll get more redemption for him in one of the following books, there are still three more to go so it could be that there’s a redemption arc for Tamlin across all three.
That would be beyond amazing. Again thanks so so much Melissa! I’ll send you an email later tonight, once I’ve replied to comments again! 😀 ❤

I honestly didn’t think he would show at all. I was 100% convinced that he would stick with Hybern just because of everything with Feyre. Which is what I mean by it being so easy to just make up your mind about a character in this series only for them to surprise you. Which everything else aside Tamlin definitely surprised me. I just didn’t enjoy him running his mouth during the meeting. That’s what made me like him even less. I do hope he gets more of a redemption arc though. I think it would be nice to see Tamlin redeemed, not fully forgiven but redeemed. After everything that happened I wouldn’t mind if he got his happy ending. Who knows, if he gets even more of a redemption arc we might end up liking him by the end of it.
I just checked my email to make sure I got yours and I did. Of course, no problem!! I’ll get it sent out by the end of the month. 😁♥

I figured he’d still be working with Hybern I just assumed he’d come to the meeting and it would possibly dissolve into a fight. You know before it eventually turned into a fight.
Tamlin definitely surprised me, mainly at the end when we saw the different side to his character again. Kind of reminded me of the Tamlin in the first story who let Feyre go back to the human world and her family before she ran Under the Mountain you know?
I wonder if, after what he did in the end, is the start of his redemption arc, or more of a I’ll live my life you live yours deal with Feyre and Rhys.
Thanks again Melissa, and that’s fine, send it whenever and however you want! 😀 ❤

The second he showed up that’s what I figured too, that he would still be working with Hybern. I wasn’t even surprised whenever Jurian said he went straight back to Hybern and completely thought he had betrayed them again. Until everything happened with Elain, her, and Az at the Hybern camp anyway.
He really surprised me at the end too! It was like we were seeing the Tamlin we first met in ACOTAR. It reminded me that I did like him at one point which made me want to see him redeemed even more. It could have been or even just his ending being more of a realization that he wasn’t the best thing for Feyre, that he wasn’t who she needed or wanted. Him being selfless in those moments could have been his full redemption. 😊

Yes the second everything went wrong after the High Lords meeting and Tamlin went back I thought the same. It seems completely in his character to side with the winning team and at the time that seemed to be Hybern. God that scene was stressful, I was so worried Feyre was going to be captured as well.
I do think most people liked him at one point. He has the potential in him to be a good character so it would interesting to say the least for him to have a redemption arc, I reckon SJM could write it really well too. 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Right? I was racing through reading that whole part because I was on the edge of my seat thinking Feyre would be captured. But then things worked out! I love how SJM brought in the flying and how it let us get to know Az a bit more. 😊
He really does and I do hope he gets some sort of redemption arc because after the ending I would actually like to see where his story goes from there.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I sped through that scene faster than any other because I was so worried about Feyre and Elain, even more so than during the actual war at the end for some reason.
It could be interesting to see, I know Tamlin still has a long way to go to be redeemed but that journey could be so amazing to read if it was written well, and as it’s SJM you know it would be written well! 😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
Same! I think it was because of the fact that they were in Hybern’s camp without an army and just themselves and Az. Less people to jump in if something bad happens and more of a possibility they could have all be captured or killed. It was a huge relief when Tamlin showed up though, wasn’t it? 😂
It really could! And yes given how incredible SJM’s writing is a Tamlin redemption would be written so well. 😊
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not sure why but I did think something bad was going to happen. I’m glad it didn’t, or no more than what did happen, but I still spent most of that scene waiting for whatever major thing was going to go wrong. It really was, and probably one of the only times in the book when I was glad to see his character appear! 😀

Great recap! Gosh, I’ve heard soooo many good things about V.E. Schwab. I should really pick up one of her books, but, I don’t know, I’m a bit hesitant. I think it’s because I’m a contemporary girl. I mean, I can’t even remember the last time I read something non-contemporary. One of my reading goals is to branch out and read other genres though… So maybe I should give it a go soon 🙂

Soon 2017 will be over and we’ll enter 2018 and the same thing will happen… and I’d have done nothing new with my life HAHA. #oops

Looks like you had a pretty successful month! I’ve managed to read some really great books in April, but I’d have to say that Carry On was my favorite. Since I finished ACOL this month, I am currently saying that is my favorite of the month. I have yet to read ACOWAR, but I’m pretty certain that it might assume the number one spot for this month. I hope you enjoy it just as much as you enjoy ACOMAF (which, of course, you read again LOL. I really can’t say I’m surprised). I’m so glad you managed to read AGOS and ACOL. It’s such a fantastic trilogy. And you’re May TBR is lookin’ good. May is on a roll with its releases. I cannot wait to dive into ACOWAR and Lord of Shadows, as well as Flame in the Mist and The Love Interest (will you be reading those two as well?). I hope your May is just as successful, especially now that school is out/almost over!! 😀

Yep, April was the month that I read all of the books!! 😂 Glad you managed to read some great books too. I so need to read Carry On! I don’t why I’ve still not read it considering I’ve wanted to since it was released. Hopefully sometime soon! I’m actually nearly halfway through ACOWAR at the moment and it’s definitely going to end up taking my favorite spot for the month, even over LoS. It’s SO GOOD! It might even blow ACOMAF out of the water for me but at the same time I think ACOMAF will always my favorite in this series. I love it way too much LOL. But I so can’t wait for you read ACOWAR because you’re going to love it! Prepare for all the feels though because there are a lot of feels. I’m seeing a slump in my future and this book will be to blame. But, yeah, I had to reread ACOMAF again. 😂 SOM really is an incredible trilogy! It might be one of the best ones I’ve ever read. May really is on a roll with book releases! There are so many geat books coming out this month. I will be reading both Flame in the Mist and The Love Interest eventually but probably not this month. With two 700+ page books on my TBR I probably won’t get the chance lol. I hope your May is too!! 😁♥

I’m sure you’ll love Carry On! I haven’t read HP but I can imagine that it’s a nice nod to that series 😀 Also, the LGBTQ+ romance is so cute! And ACOWAR might blow ACOMAF out of the water?!?! My goodness, I need to read that book right now, if that’s true. I’m ready for some more feels from that series. Maas is proving to be a genius. And yeah, I’ll bet we’ll all be in a little slump after ACOWAR lol. SOM is definitely a winning series. One of the best fantasy series out there right now I think. I can’t wait to read all those amazing books this month. I’ll probably be reading all the big May releases this month, especially now that I’ve got the time. I’ll let ya know what I think of Flame in the Mist (I’ve heard nothing but great things about it so far) and The Love Interest. But I hope you enjoy your books for this month! Thanks so much, Jasmine!! 😊 Right? It’s always the best when you get a ton of books for cheap. One of my favorite things about having a Kindle lol. Yep! Since I read ACOMAF last year I’ve reread it 15+ times, possibly way more than 15. It was my go-to reread for a while and probably always will be. 😊 And YAY about ADSOM! Are you enjoying it so far? Lila is my favorite in that series. She’s awesome. I hope you enjoy the full trilogy! 💕

You had an amazing reading month and amazing haul! I never read any JLA book, but wicked is in my tbr. I didn’t really enjoy Red Rising, but I do hope you’ll enjoy it!

Thanks so much! And you should so give some of JLA’s books a try. I highly recommend her Covenant series if you’re into greek mythology. Wicked is a great book as well especially if you’re into faerie stuff. I hope you enjoy it if/when you get to it. 😁

I enjoyed both mythology and faerie, I’m going to read both of them first before reading her most famous one: Lux 😀

Lux is a really good one too! That one is probably second to her Covenant series for me. 😊
