Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming book releases that you’re eagerly anticipating!
This week I’m spotlighting The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Which actually doesn’t release until 2018 but, well, I’m really excited for it and want to feature it now. I was recently recommended Holly Black’s books and when I checked Goodreads and stumbled across this one it automatically went on my TBR. One, I love faerie books. Two, it sounds dark and I need more dark books in my life. So, yeah, I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

Genre: YA, Fantasy
Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
You can pre-order it on: Amazon, B&N, iBooks, Book Depository, and Kobo
What books are you excited for!?

I can’t wait for it! I’m going to be keeping my eyes peeled on NetGalley so I can try to score an ARC if they have them. 😂

Ohhh I haven’t heard about that book before but it sounds kind of cool – might have to add it to my TBR! 😀

It really does! Here’s to hoping we both enjoy it whenever we get to reading it. 😁

Oh I am so excited for this book Melissa, I didn’t even realise a cover had actually been released for it (I thought it still had the purple placeholder cover, which it did the last time I checked GR). I’m also a little surprised it’s not being released until 2018. It seems to have been around a fair bit already and we’re only into April 2017 so there’s such a long wait for this book, still I’m sure it will be worth it when it is finally released! 😀
I will second the recommendation you’ve had for Holly Black’s books, her Modern Faerie Tales series was the first series featuring faeries I picked up and honestly I think it’s still the best I’ve read. Honestly there are no other authors out there who writes faeries like she does! I hope you enjoy her books when you pick them up! 🙂
Great pick for this week as well. 😀 ❤

Same, it sounds like it’s going to be an incredible book! I think the cover was released at the beginning of the week along with an excerpt. I read the excerpt and it was so good. I was going to link it in my post but I couldn’t find the link for it again. I’m surprised it isn’t being released until next year either. Whenever I saw it all over twitter when the cover was released I actually thought the release date would be sooner. But I guess releasing the cover and stuff way ahead of times leaves even more anticipation build up for it. 😊
I added her Modern Faerie Tales books to my TBR too. I am definitely going to have to have to pick up her books soon. Especially since I love faeries and you’re saying that no other author does them like her. I’m even more intrigued!
Thanks so much, Beth!! 😁♥

Probably why I missed it then, if it was only the beginning of the week I wouldn’t have had a chance to see it before your post or anything.I tend to avoid excerpts, I like being able to read the book in it’s entirety all at once you know? It seems like I’ve been seeing it for ages now, they’re really publicizing this book aren’t they if we’ve heard so much about it already but the release date isn’t until 2018!
They’re amazing books, if you like faerie stories I’d highly recommend them and I’m sure you’ll love them as well. That’s all right! 😀 ❤

I always run for the excerpts. I usually avoid everything for books but when an excerpt is released I always give in and read it. Like with ACOWAR, there was an excerpt released and I had to read it. But then again it just made me more impatient for the book so probably not a good idea. 😂 (Only two more days though!)
They must think it’s going to do really well and a lot of people are going to love it. That and Holly Black’s a pretty popular author, isn’t she?
I definitely plan on reading them at some point! 😁

See I can’t imagine that, but I guess that’s just the way I read. I like being able to go through a book without knowing I’ve read that small snippet of text before you know?
Also anything that makes me more impatient for a book is never a good thing! 😀
Well yeah, but it could backfire, they could be releasing everything too early so by the time the book is released people have forgotten about it. I don’t think that’ll be the case though. 🙂

Yeah I get that. Honestly, I have the worst impulse control when it comes to books I’m really excited for. I can avoid reviews but snippets and excerpts are my weakness. 🙈
True but I agree I don’t that’ll be the case. 😊

Ahhh this one sounds amazing! Kind of cliched from the summary, but I have to admit that I do enjoy the occasional cliches. Holly Black does faerie stuff pretty well, too, so thanks for introducing this book to me. ❤

It does, doesn’t it? True about it sounding a bit cliche but I’m the same. That and the fact that I need all the faerie books in my life. 😂 I’ve yet to read any of Holly Black’s books that have been released but you and Beth telling me she does faeries really well makes me want to read her other stuff asap. Hopefully sometime soon! You’re welcome!! 😁

I am honestly surprised I have not heard of this one! You should see if you can get our hands on a review copy 😉

I was surprised too. I’m glad someone recommended me her books. Otherwise I might not have stumbled across it. I’m keeping my eye out on NetGalley for an ARC. I’m thinking it’ll be a bit before they put one up. If not then I’ll definitely be emailing the publisher and hoping I get lucky. 😊

How soon do ARCs normally go up? I have never really thought about this haha. 6 mth mark maybe? I have no clue. Horrible blogger I am 😛

I’m actually not sure either 🙈. I think it varies. On NetGalley I’ve seen books go up a year in advance and then some not until a month to a few weeks before.

I haven’t heard about this one but it already has three things going for it: (1) Faeries (2) Holly Black (3) Dark, gritty plot. This is the type of faerie book I love, so I cannot WAIT to have this one in my hands. It breaks my heart that it comes next year 😦 But great pick! Thanks for bringing it to my notice!

This one will be the first I’ve read by Holly Black but it completely had me sold on the faeries and dark plot. I so rarely come across darker faerie books. It’s going to be a nice change of pace! I’m sad it doesn’t come out until next year too. I’ve been hoping an ARC with pop up on NetGalley but so far nothing. Thanks so much, Azia!! And you’re welcome! 😊♥

Oh you’ve got to read her other books. For some reason my favorite book from Black is Tithe, the first book in her first trilogy I believe. I think I love it so much because it introduced me to the concept of a darker Faerie. Maybe you might enjoy that one too! And I hope Cruel Prince pops up on NetGalley soon and you manage to snag a copy 😀

I definitely plan on reading her other books. Especially Tithe! That’s the one that was first recommend to me, I think. I’ve been told she does dark faeries better than anyone so I can’t wait. I hope so too! 😊

YAAAAS. So glad someone else has mentioned it too. And she really does. I’d go so far as to say she may be the queen of Dark Fae YA 😉 (ohmigod I just realized that rhymed 😂)

This book sounds amazing 😀I loved Holly Blacks’ book The Darkest Part of the Forest and faeries are my favourite mythological creatures so definitely adding this to my TBR.
