15394334.jpgShe’s got it all figured out.

Or does she? When it comes to relationships, Remy’s got a whole set of rules.

Never get too serious. Never let him break your heart. And never, ever date a musician.

But then Remy meets Dexter, and the rules don’t seem to apply anymore.

Could it be that she’s starting to understand what all those love songs are about?

-Goodreads Synopsis (x)

This Lullaby was the first book I read by Sarah Dessen, which led to me reading several of her other books. It’s been a long time since I last reread it, over a year, so I apologize if this is a tad all over the place. However, I love this book. The main character Remy is a tad anti-relationship and she has reason to be that way, which I won’t spoil. At least until she meets the adorable Dexter who is almost the complete opposite of her. Not to mention he happens to be in a band. This book is full of an incredible cast of characters who are each flawed in their own ways, no one is perfect. It’s a book about learning that it’s okay to be vulnerable and it’s okay to take chances. Overall it’s a great book with a great message. If you love YA contemporary romances then this book is perfect for you. I highly recommend it!

  1. I LOVE this book and everything by Sarah Dessen I’ve read, and even everything by her I’ve yet to read as well because I know it’s going to be amazing if it’s by her!
Just Listen was actually the first of her books I started with but I pretty much went from that one, to another, then to This Lullaby, and then to another. Like you reading one of her books set me up to read and love all of her other’s as well. I can’t remember much of this book either, a re-read is definitely needed soon, and not just for this but for all of her books, but I loved both Remy and Dexter’s characters. I prefered Dexter a little I can remember but I loved the two and their relationship together and oh I loved this book as well. 😀
Great pick Melissa! ❤ Sarah Dessen is such an amazing YA contemporary author isn't she? Seeing some of her books more recently has made me want to pick them all up again. For some reason between your post and a few others on the blogosphere I'm feeling like something is promoting me to pick her books up again! 😀

    • Same! It’s like with Colleen Hoover or Kasie West, Sarah Dessen’s books are ones that I instantly love even if I haven’t read them. But also especially when I have read them. I’ve never been disappointed by any of her books.
I think I went from This Lullaby to Just Listen and then after that I was like *grabs any Sarah Dessen book she can get her hands on* 😂. A reread of all of her books that I’ve read and then a read of the ones I haven’t is definitely something I need to do.
She really is! She was one of the authors that made me fall in love with YA contemporary. Fantasy will always be my number one by contemporaries are definitely right up there because of her books. I feel exactly the same way! I’ve been seeing posts about her books around a lot lately and it’s made me want to pick up more of them soon.
      Thank you, Beth!! 💕

      • Well I still have a fair few of Sarah Dessen’s books to work my way through so I hope that’s true for me as well. I think the next one on my to-read list is Along for the Ride have you read that one?
No I’ve never been disappointed by any of her books, and I’m sure I won’t be with any of her future releases either.
Oh Just Listen was amazing wasn’t it, and I was the same once I started I couldn’t stop until I’d read everything she’d written. Then somehow I got behind on all her releases so not sure what happened there or anything. I’m slowly making my way through them. I’m starting with the ones I haven’t read and then going back for a reread of the ones that I have!
Same, exactly the same, Sarah Dessen was the first YA contemporary author I read and definitely responsible for getting me hooked on the genre.
        That’s all right Melissa! ❤️

      • I actually haven’t read that one yet either. I remember hearing a lot of good things about it back when it first published though. It’s one that I definitely need to get around to soon myself. 😊
The same thing happened with me. One minute I was reading her books as they released and then suddenly I stopped. I don’t even know why. I think it might have had something to do with getting really into fantasy and not reading a lot of contemporaries for a while. I might have to do that too.
Same here. I always be glad I decided to pick up her books. 😊

      • I haven’t yet heard anything bad about her books so I’m sure Along for the Ride will be no exception. I have all her newer releases on my to-read list so hopefully soon I’ll be up to date!
I wonder if it was the same for me. Or I’d read all of her released books and sometime between the wait for her newest book and its release I just forgot to get around to it. Who knows? It could be the fantasy thing for me as well! 😀

      • I haven’t heard anything bad about her books either so I’m betting it will be. I’m hoping to get up to date too. Between her books and Kasie West’s I think I have enough contemporaries to get me through any fantasy slumps I have. 😂

  2. I’ve been seeing a lot of Dessen recommendations lately! I think that’s a sign that I need to try out one of her books soon! And this one sounds good! Thanks for the rec, Melissa 😊

  3. Awe!! I loved this book, it’s on my bookshelf and the pages are starting to turn yellow from being there so long. I used to devour Sarah Dessen as a teenager, I mean that was my go to author. I haven’t read one of her books in a long time though. Nice choice!

  4. When I was in high school, I went through a Sarah Dessen phase but somehow I didn’t read this one. I’ve been meaning to pick up more of her books recently, so hopefully this time around, I’ll read this one! haha

  5. I read this a long time ago and I honestly can’t remember anything about it 🙈 buuut it was a translated version so it was a bit crappy… OHH I had to tell you this. Remember when you featured I’ll Meet You There on your standalone sunday a few weeks ago and I said I wanted to read it? Well… I finally did and I LOVE IT SO MUCH ❤ I've been in a hangover ever since and I don't even want to read other books because I still can't let it go hahaha :')

    • You should give it a reread one day! It’s such a great book. 😊
Awwww YAY ♥!! I’m so glad you enjoyed I’ll Meet You There! That book is one of my favorites and I love when I recommend it and others enjoy it too. That sucks about the hangover though. 🙈
I can’t wait to see your review for it.

      • I don’t know about that, my copy is in translated version and ever since I started reading books in English, I don’t ever want to read translation anymore hahaha and I’m surely not gonna buy the English edition 😂😂 I have re-read it TWICE Melissa… this is so bad I want a sequel hahaha 🙈 my review will probably be up next month though hahaha I have a lot of posts on schedule 😛

      • Awww. I wish I could send you a copy of it in English because my local used bookstore has them for so cheap. If only shipping wasn’t so expensive and I wasn’t a broke college student 😢.
I was exactly the same when I first read it 😂. I’ve actually reread it so many times. For a while it was my go-to reread because I couldn’t stop reading it. I’m with you on wanting a sequel. There are so many possibilities! But at the same time I enjoyed the open ending.
Lucky! I need to up my scheduling game haha. Well I’ll definitely keep a look out for it next month. 😊

      • I KNOOOOOWWW I wish shipping doesn’t cost as expensive as it does now 😂😂 this is one of my worst hangover hahaha I think it’s partly because I wasn’t expecting anything and it turned out to be SO GOOD it just hit me right in the face hahaha I loved the ending too, but I kinda wanna know what Josh’s future holds!! Like, is he going back to the Marines or going to school??!!! Hahaha yayyy we’ll flail (again) together ❤

      • It’s always the reads that surprise you that are the best. In my opinion, anyway. 😊
School could be a possibility but I don’t think he’s going back to the Marines. Mainly because he lost his leg and was discharged because of it. It’s too bad of an injury. YAY!! I can’t wait. 😃
By the way I finished Crooked Kingdom last night. 😱

      • Yeahh but they offered him a desk job right? I think it’ll be cool if he stays in the Marines. Buuut if he chooses to go to school he could probably go to the same school as Skylar hahaha ❤ YAYYY what do you think about it?!! Can't wait for your review 😀

      • I’ve read so many books with military characters that even though I remembered that I was thinking it was from another book 😂. But yeah they did. I don’t remember if he said he was going to take it or stay at the hotel though.
I think Skylar was going to art school though. Right? It would be awesome if they went to the same school though!
        Now I really want a sequel. 😂
I really enjoyed it! I had a few problems but they weren’t enough to take away my love for it. My review is going to be up at noon (my time) and full of spoilers lol. 😊

      • You should make a post to recommend books with military characters!! I would looooove to read more of that 😛 Last I checked he still hasn’t decided hahaha I tweeted Heather Demetrios and she said she was VERY TEMPTED to write a sequel (meaning there’s no plan to do it yet) buuut fingers crossed, a lot of contemporary takes years before the sequel comes out 😛 YAYYY going over to check it now!!

      • I just might! I’ll have to add it to my list of blog posts for over the next few weeks. Although (and I may be bias) I think I’ll Meet You There is is my top favorite with a military character. Most of the other ones are more romance focused 😂. Ahhhh! If she ever writes a sequel I will so drop everything to read it.
