29381926What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?

All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree, and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.

What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project, but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s a brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also may find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.

When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot, but at least there’s make-up sex now.

But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed? Or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?

-Goodreads Synopsis (x)

Smut by Karina Halle is the perfect book to read if you’re in a slump. How do I know this? Because it got me out of one of my worst slumps, which was caused by It Ends With Us. This book is hilarious, cute, sexy, and everything you could hope for in a romance novel. Plus, if you’re on the search for your next book boyfriend then look no further because Blake Crawford is your next book boyfriend. Trust me. I loved Amanda and Blake. I loved Blake’s younger step-brother. I loved Amanda’s roommate. I just really loved this book. Also, if you enjoy reading books where the characters are writers or aspiring writers then this book is perfect for you. It’s pretty much your all around light hearted NA romance with plenty of steamy scenes. If you’re into that then read it. I promise you won’t regret it!

  1. I was so happy to see this post because I’ve been in a huge slump! Maybe this one will help me get out of it! I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks, Melissa!

  2. YES! YES! OMG YES! 😍 This is my favorite NA book EVER! Blake Crawford is such a yummy character I wish he was real. That book had me laughing so hard and swooning even harder. The library sex in this book… #life goal. Lol I seriously wrote the craziest review ever for this book. Have you read any of the books in the Off-Campus series? Dean was my ultimate book boyfriend until I read Blake. His POV chapter start was hilarious. And my mom said my book opened up with raunchy material. I recall exactly what he said at the opening of his chapters and I was dying. 😂 And his comments about Harry Potter and sex were to die for. About his wand and Draco Malfoy! 😂👍👻😎

    • It’s probably one of my favorite NA books too. I will never be over it and I need more books like it in my life! YES! I wish Blake were real too, that would be amazing 😍. LOL the library sex is definitely life goals 😂. I so need to go check out your review because I’m not sure if I saw it. I bet it’s going to make me want to reread it haha. I haven’t read the Off-Campus series yet. It’s on my TBR though! Especially after having read several reviews. I need to get around to them soon. Omg comments about Harry Potter and sex 😂.

      • Even my review is kinda dirty. But…you already know how I roll. 😂 LOL Blake is so sexy I need a hot Brit dude in my life. I have Off-Campus on Kindle. I can loan them to you for 14 days for free through Amazon. If you ever want to read them, let me know, and I can have Amazon send them to you. The guys in those books are WOW! 😍 Hot hockey dudes that talk dirty… Need I say more? Yummo! Ha! Yeah, the HP comments from Blake were priceless. I added them to my review. It’s a pretty skanky review by most people’s standards. 😂🙈🙊🙌👍

      • I just read your review it’s so great 😂😂😂! I swear if I would have seen it before I would have read Smut a lot sooner than I did. Now I just want to go reread it haha. Yes! I completely agree. I need a hot Brit dude in my life too.
I’ll let you know. I probably won’t have time for them until sometime next year but I definitely want to read them. I’ve never read a book with hot hockey guys so 😍.
Lol but skanky reviews are the best reviews! Seriously though I cracked up while reading your review. The quote from the Fluffy scene! 😂

      • Haha! Thank you! 🙂 That was by far my craziest review ever written. I don’t know which one I like more. Brit dudes or hockey players? I’ve dated both and there are pros and cons to both. Unless he’s a British hockey player. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! 🙌❤️😍 Hockey dudes are so yumm-o! You’ll be hooked after you read The Deal. I can promise that. 🙂 You’ll be turning on the Dallas Stars right after that. Lol They have some sexy dudes on that team. Just sayin’. 🙈😜 I love a super skanky review. They are so much fun to read. I follow a lot of romance readers on Goodreads, and I love reading some of their crazy reviews. I found out there’s a such thing as “breeding” books. Eww! And they’re actually popular. Lol😂

      • I’ve never dated either so I can’t say but I’d imagine a British hockey player would be 😍😍😍. Someone needs to make a book with one and he’d probably be our next book boyfriend for sure. 🙈😂
From everything I’ve heard about the series I have a feeling I will be.
They really are! Skanky reviews are probably some of my favorites to read lol.
“Breeding” books? Something tells me I don’t want to know what that is. 😂

  3. Great pick for this week Melissa, and also I finally remembered that Sunday was Standalone Sunday and wrote my own as well, as well as one for next week in case I forget again!
I’d never heard of this book before but I can’t deny the blurb has me hooked and it has definitely gone on my to-read list. It may be one I finally pick up when I’m in a slump after reading an epic YA fantasy book that leaves me stunned and gives me a major book hangover (so TSR I guess!)
Either way I hope I enjoy it as much as you clearly have. I love books that are funny and I kind of already love Amanda and Blake as well! 😀

    • Thanks, Beth! 💕
I’ll definitely have to go check yours out.
YAY! I’m glad I could convince you to add it to your TBR. It’s such a hilarious books. I think you’ll love it. And it will probably be great for after TSR because that one does have a big chance of causing a huge book hangover. I’m going to have to find a cute romance for after that lol. Probably a Kasie West book! 🙈
I hope you do too. I can’t wait to hear what you end up thinking of it. 😃

      • That’s all right! ❤
Yep, now on my TBR and I do think I'll end up saving it for after TSR, just because I already know that book is going to require a lot of YA /NA contemporary books to pull me from the book hangover it will put me in.
Ohh, I'd definitely recommend Kasie West for you then! 😀
Well I'll be sure to post a review when I am done! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      • It’s most likely going to do the same to me too. I’ve been building my list of cute YA/NA contemporaries as a precaution. 😂
Yes! I especially want to read The Distance Between Us after having read your review and Jill’s. I think that’s where I’m going to start. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      • There are definitely going to be some books released next year, and I’m not just thinking of TSR here, where we need to dig out that list of cute contemporaries.
Definitely do. I think you’ll love Kasie West’s books and end up binge reading them all like I did! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yep! There’s no question about that. Especially with the slump ACOMAF put me in, I know the third book is bound to do the same. I have several on my TBR where I’ll need cute contemporaries to read after I read them.
If how much I loved P.S. I Like You is any indication I have a feeling I will love her other books. Yeah I might end up wanting to binge read them. 😂🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      • ACOMAF didn’t really put me in a slump but I imagine the third book definitely will, especially considering it’s the last in the trilogy (or at least I think it is!)
I can’t wait to see your reviews for any one of Kasie West’s books, but yeah I’m sure you’ll love her as well! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      • I think the only reason I keep up with them is because of my constant rereads of ACOMAF. 😂🙈
Same! With how complex the world is and then all of the characters. I hope she does quite a few side novels. I’d really love one set before ACOTAR. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      • Well that’s a good way. I read ACOMAF in May and haven’t picked it up since. I don’t like to read the same books more than once a year you know.
There’s more than enough characters and potential for a whole new series with the side characters. But ohh one set before ACOTAR would be amazing as well! 😀

  4. SMUT!!! You already know I love this book! SO happy you picked this because it deserves so much praise. Ugh, now I miss Blake 😦 love him and his sexy accent! I also miss the fluffy scene that had me literally coughing from laughing. Such a good pick, I hope everyone reads it :).

    • You should definitely add it to your TBR. It’s such a great book, especially if you’re looking for a lighter read. Also, Blake is really cute and you’ll love him haha. If you ever do end up giving it a chance, despite not being into NA, I hope you enjoy it. 💕😊
