The month where I hit a terrible reading slump.
October was not such a great reading or blogging month for me. I read two incredible books at the beginning of the month but after that it was all down hill. I hit the dreaded reading slump. I started three or four books and didn’t finish any of them. Not because I didn’t like them but because I had zero motivation to read. So, I spent the majority of the month binge watching horror movies (because it’s October so why not). I’ve slowly started crawling out of my reading slump, however, and have stuck with my current read. I should have it finished and a review up within the next week or so.
Also, October brought with it my birthday. I can’t believe I’m 23 because I still feel like I’m 18, but it was exciting and fun. 😊
And, of course, today is Halloween. So, Happy Halloween everyone! Go eat tons of candy and have a great day.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo [REVIEW]
(5/5)
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West [REVIEW]
(5/5)
-Favorite Read-
I loved both books so much but I’m going to have to go with Six of Crows. That book was fantastic. The characters were so unique and I’m still in awe over the world building. Leigh Bardugo is such an incredible writer. I can’t wait to dive into Crooked Kingdom next month, which I am buddy reading with Jill @ Rant and Rave About Books, Lilly @ Lair of Books, and Megan @ bookslayerReads so be on the lookout for that. 😊

I had so much fun with my love triangles discussion. It really opened my eyes to the fact that there are decent ones out there, it’s just a matter of finding them.

As it was my birthday this month I went a bit crazy. I threw my buying ban out the window and bought whatever I wanted. However, I actually didn’t buy as many books as I had originally thought. I’ve done worse damage in the past. 😂

Who else is really excited for Thanksgiving!? Mainly the food, I’m really excited for the food. 😂
I can’t believe we’re in the last two months of 2016. I swear it feels like just yesterday it was New Years. Time has gone by so quickly this year!
I don’t really have a lot planned for November beyond the buddy read for Crooked Kingdom. I’m just getting out of a reading slump and I’m firmly sticking to my idea of not making a monthly TBR. However, I’m also hoping to get through the two review books I’ve had for a while as well. We’ll see.
November is also going to be an extremely busy month for me school wise. My Humanities class is overloaded with work each week and on top of starting the final paper it’s a lot to do while having to work. I’m hoping it doesn’t take too much away from being on here, but if I disappear for a few days at a time it means I’m drowning in school work.
I hope all of you had a fantastic October and have an even better November! 💕
What books did you read this month? What was your favorite?
Did you have a good blogging month or just a good month in general?
What do you plan on reading in November?
We all seem to have these months it seems but it’s ok cuz the 2 books you did read, you LOVED! lol I’ve honestly had a better reading than blogging month in October. So I would say that I was experiencing a bit of a blogging slump but I’m also peeking my head back up slowly but surely. The great books out this fall may be the reason. I just started The Graveyard Book in audiobook format & the Heartless arc. Both are SooooOo good! I wish I could split myself in 2 just to read these at the same time. When I’m not reading, I’m thinking of each of the worlds in these books 😃 Happy reading November, the 🦃 is upon us! 😃💕

True! I actually noticed several people say they were in slumps this month too. I still feel like Six of Crows started my slump in a way 😂.
That sucks about the blogging slump and I’m glad it’s starting to go away. New releases are definitely helpful for both blogging slumps and reading slumps! 😊
I keep seeing people talk about The Graveyard Book. I may have to look that one up. Yay! I’m glad you’re enjoying Heartless. I can’t wait to see your review for that one!
See that’s why I can never read two books at once. And the fact that I’m terrible at multitasking when it comes to reading. I always want to read one of the books more. 😂
Happy reading November to you too. And yes! I really can’t wait for Thanksgiving. 😃

Ahhh I’ve see a few other bloggers mention that SOC as a bit slow for them since it was so background heavy. I personally enjoyed it way more than The Grisha trilogy but can see why some would feel it was slow. The Graveyard book is turning out to be as good as everyone says. I can only do one physical book & one audiobook at a time 😃💕

I definitely enjoyed it way more than The Grisha Trilogy too. It actually didn’t feel slow to me, I felt like Six of Crows was really fast paced. But maybe that was because we’ve both read the trilogy and already had some of the background going in? Even though Six of Crows can be read without having read the trilogy maybe already knowing the basics of the world made the pacing better. (If that makes any sense.) 😊
I need to give audio books another try. So far I haven’t found one that can hold my attention.

You had me at the Halloween Town gif! Two 5 star reads seems successful to me 😉

Yes! Halloween Town. I knew someone would love that gif. I’m kind of sad that the gif I used is the closest I got to watching the movies this year. I missed all of the marathons. True. I’m glad the reads I did manage were fantastic. 😊

Spirit of Halloween town is right down the road from. I just learned this recently. The film was On Demand here so I have seen it twice.

That’s so cool! I’m thinking about watching them now even though Halloween is over lol.

Happy belated birthday!!! I also had a bad reading month in October lol, I know we spoke about that on twitter. But I think it’s normal for all of us readers to just have the slump. At least they were both 5 stars for you though!!!! So you’re all good!!! I enjoyed your love triangles post too. You purchased soooooo many books and I’m interested in your thoughts when you get to them =)

Thank you!! 💕
It seems like a lot of us had sucky reading months in October. I’ve seen quite a few wrap ups talking about slumps.
True. 😊
I know. I’m officially back on book buying ban status after this month. I only have two books I plan on buying and I’m not letting myself buy anymore. (Hopefully) 😂
I’ll definitely have reviews up once I read them. 😊

Happy Halloween! 😀 I’m always happy when I see people loving Six of Crows. It’s one of my all time favourite books ever, after all. I plan on reading Crooked Kingdom in November as well. And seriously CAN’T WAIT! I’m just exited to find out what is going to happen next.
I loved The Shining and A Monster Calls, both of them are amazing and I hope you enjoy them as well!
Hopefully November will be a better reading month for both of us! 🙂

Happy (late) Halloween to you too!! 😃
I’m the same. It’s such a fantastic book. I’m excited too! Especially after the ending for Six of Crows. All I’ve been thinking about is finding out what happens next. 🙈
I’ve heard a lot of great things about both books and have a feeling I’ll love them.
I hope so too! 😊

I absolutely understand the slump! I always get the stink eye for getting a million things are the library at a time, but that’s the only way I know how to get over my reading slumps is to try books until something really catches my attention.

Slumps really are the worst! I actually have a whole reread method that usually gets me back into the flow of reading but for some reason it just didn’t work this time around.

Happy 23rd Birthday! You’re still so young! 😊 I just finished Six of Crows. Tonight I’m not reading anything because after a good book, I just want to dwell on it 😊 I guess that’s the cause for reading slump 😊

Thank you!! 💕
I’m the same way. It might be what causes slumps. I actually think Six of Crows was a factor in my reading slump because I want to know what happens next so bad lol. 😊

Oh, 23! 🙂 Enjoy hahaha I think 23 is better than 18 😛

I completely understand the drowning in school work part lol. October nearly had me down for the count with all my essays I worked on the day they were due and the midterms I didn’t study for the night before. But I digress. So happy you loved Six of Crows! I love that book so much ❤ I'm excited to see what you think of Crooked Kingdom! And I'll have to get into this P.S. I Love You series. Everyone seems to love it. Your book haul is amazing, by the way! A few of those are on my TBR already so can't wait to see what you have to say about them 😀

Oh no. And I thought I had it bad. The only positive of online college so far is the lack of midterms. (I hope I didn’t jinx that.) I hope November is better for you school wise!
I’ll definitely have a review up for Crooked Kingdom and the books on my haul once I read them. I’m especially excited for Crooked Kingdom. I’ve heard a lot of good things and given how much I loved Six of Crows I’m betting I’ll love it.
And yes! P.S. I Like You is an incredible book. It’s perfect if you need a cute romance novel. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you do decide to read it. 😊
Thank you!! 💕

Even though you only got through two books this month Melissa they are admittedly amazing books so there’s that working in your favour. I hope you love Crooked Kingdom as well, though I think if you enjoyed Six of Crows then you definitely will. I finished it myself last week and oh I am still not over it at all. It’s just such an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what you think of it. 😀
Also your book haul is amazing, there are so many brilliant books on there so hopefully they’ll help pull you even further from your reading slump. 🙂
I can’t believe there’s only two months of this year to go either, it feels like we should have longer but we’re already discussing Christmas do’s and Secret Santa’s at work (we don’t have Thanksgiving in the middle like you guys over in the US).
I hope you have a brilliant November Melissa, and I hope your school work doesn’t get you down too much either! 😀

True. The bright side to my reading slump was the fact that I read two incredible books beforehand.
I have a feeling I’m going to love Crooked Kingdom. I just hope it doesn’t send me back into slump central as all great series ending books tend to do to me 😂. I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it either! Once you have it up and I’ve finished Crooked Kingdom I’ll be sure to read it.
Thank you! I hope so. So far Ink and Bone is fantastic so it’s helping. I’m just reading extremely slow.
I know right? I actually decorated my bookshelves all Christmasy already. I know most of the stores here had all of their Christmas stuff out way before Halloween. It feels like everyone gets a head start earlier and earlier every year.
I hope you do too Beth and thank you! 💕😊

Exactly, it could have made your reading slump worse if beforehand you’d read two bad books, or even two books that just weren’t too bad or too good you know?
Reading Crooked Kingdom did the opposite of sending me into a slump, it made me want to pile all possible books onto my to-read list and get through them faster than I normally do. If it does though I’d recommend picking up some YA contemporary reads, that normally helps when the end of the series puts me in a bit of a slump.
Slow is still reading, and hopefully the more you enjoy it the quicker you’ll be able to get through it as well. 😀
Ohh, I may have to do that myself, well, I need to sort out my bookshelves first because they are a tip at the moment. I can use it as my Christmas tree in a way! 😀
That’s all right. ❤

It could have. Especially the two bad books. I feel like when you keep running into bad books it always has the ability to put someone off of reading for a bit.
I hope it does that for me but if not I might sneak a Kasie West books in some how. Or the YA contemporary review book I have. 😊
I’m over halfway through it now and it’s finally picking up. I think it was just the fact that the beginning is a tad slow.
You so should! Using your shelf as a Christmas tree is a neat idea. If you end up doing it definitely post a picture on your Instagram. 😃
I bought this little plastic light up tree that fades into different colors for my shelf.

Yes I’ve had that happen, and it sucks but there are plenty of other amazing ones out there, and when it does happen I’d recommend picking up an old favourite you know tour bound to love and giving that a try.
Either way as long as you get through at least one of her books soon! I can’t wait to see what you think of them! Well it’s great the book is picking up now but ideally you probably would have liked it if it has started off fast as well.
I may actually, I need to sort by bookshelves out but once they are I will definitely decorate it as a Christmas tree or something, a festive picture with my favourite books! 😀

That’s always my go to in reading funks – the reread an old favorite trick. Sometimes I end up getting stuck in the rereading though and want to reread all of the books I love 😂. If only there was more time to read new books and reread old favorites!
Either way I can’t wait to see what you end up doing. I love Christmas decorating so much. 😊

Hey there’s nothing wrong with that, obviously they’re favourites for a reason so every now and again you’re going to want to re-read all of them! There are more than a few series that I want to re-read before the end of the year just because they’re favourites and I haven’t gotten around to them yet!
Same here, when December comes around I’m going to be all about Christmas and decorating for the holiday! 😀

Same. I’m actually thinking about reread this series I read before I started my blog and doing a recommendation/review type post for it once I finish. 😊

I’m definitely going to re-read some of the series I finished before blogging, just because they’re amazing and I want to write reviews for them! 😀

I’m excited about Thanksgiving! Give me my turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. 🙂 I hope you like Vassa more than I did. My Lady Jane is an awesome book and so much fun to read. It’s a hefty book but it goes by fast. You did the same thing I do for my birthday and went crazy buying books. I go insane every year, like it’s my reward for getting older. LOL 🙂

Yes! Especially the turkey and stuffing for me. My mom makes the best stuffing. 😊
Vassa has definitely moved down on my TBR list but when I do get to it we’ll see. As for My Lady Jane I’m really excited to read that one. I’m hoping I can fit it end before the end of the year.
It’s definitely our reward for getting older! Or maybe just our excuse to buy whatever books we want without feeling guilty? 😂

I hope you love My Lady Jane. It’s super funny and moves faster than expected for a book that size. 🙂

Thank you! I can’t wait to get around to all of them. Especially Nevernight. I’ve been putting off picking that one back up for too long lol. 😊
