Top Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This weeks theme:
October 18: Ten Characters I’d Name A Child/Dog/Cat/Car/Etc. After — we did this topic back in 2011 and thought it might be fun to revisit it…feel free to spin it how you need!
I’ve actually named a lot of my pets after characters in books so I’m going to do five names I’ve already used and five names I want to use in the future if I ever get another pet. 😊
The Iron Fey – Rowan
So, I really love The Iron Fey and around the time I was reading the series was around the same time I got a puppy. The thing is I didn’t particularly like the character Rowan but I loved his name so it was the first thing that popped into my mind for puppy names and thus my now nearly 11 month old dog is named after Rowan. (She is far nicer than the character. I promise.) 🙈
Pretty Little Liars – Toby
I feel like this is cheating considering I’ve never read the book series and only watched the show. Way back when I was obsessed with it my favorite character was Toby so when we were taking care of a few stray kittens (which we ended up keeping) I named one of them after him. Except I spelled it Tobi because I thought that was clever at the time. 😂
The Dark Artifices – Tiberius
There is a running theme where every character I’ve named a pet after has been my favorite and it’s the same with this one. We ended up fostering a few kittens several months back (who all now have great homes, two of them even got adopted together). It was right after I had read Lady Midnight and Ty is my favorite so of course I named one of the kittens after him. Funnily enough, the people who adopted him loved the name and their daughter is a fan of Cassandra Clare’s books so they kept it. ♥
Harry Potter – Luna
I love Luna, she is so quirky and completely herself. Last year after months of saving I was finally able to afford to get my Hedgehog and straight away I knew I wanted to name her after Luna. She’s definitely a quirky little animal.
Warriros: The New Prophecy – Crowfeather
Yes, I named a cat after a cat 😂. When I was younger I adored the Warriors books. That book series and the many other that have come after are a big reason why I love reading as much as I do. Before we moved, we came across this stray cat that I couldn’t help but take care of and he looked a lot like Crowfeather. I was really attached to that character and the whole book world so I named the stray cat after him. We had him for years and he even made the move with us.
Six of Crows – Kaz or Inej
Inej is my favorite in Six of Crows but I also love Kaz and I’m sitting here picturing getting a kitten and naming it after one of them. Seriously, a kitten named after Kaz? How cute would that be? 🙈
A Court of Mist and Fury – Rhys or Azriel
Because apparently I want to name a ton of cats after my favorites. It’s like with Kaz, naming kittens after Rhys or Azriel would be cute. Someone should do that!
The Darkest Minds – Liam or Cole
I loved both of them, especially Cole. Plus, I’ve always loved the name Liam. It would be a great name for a pet.
The Hunger Games – Katniss
In the past, I’ve almost named a pet after Katniss. I think it would be pretty cool. Plus, Katniss is awesome so…
Divergent – Tris
I’ve always really loved the name Beatrice and the nickname Tris seems like it would be the perfect name for a cat (I love cats, okay). 🙈
I kind of cheated with my second half because I couldn’t choose just one name. There are so many names from books I would use for pets.
What about you guys? Have you used any of the above names for pets or do you want to?

I love that you named your hedgehog Luna! 🙂 She’s a fabulous character and her name is beautiful and she’d probably think it was awesome to have a hedgehog named after herself as well 🙂
Here are the names I chose:

It’s such a nice name isn’t it? I really love Irish names so that’s another reason why I adore that one. I’d definitely recommend a pet to use that name for. 🙈
Thank you! 😊

I’ll admit I’m kind of jealous that you’ve had enough pets you’ve named five of them after book characters. I’ve only ever had two dogs (and some fish and stick insects but they don’t really count) and neither of them are/were named after book characters. I’ve basically come to the decision that I need more pets (not sure how my parents will take this decision…)
Also I am totally behind your goal of getting loads of kittens and naming them after all the characters on your to-name list; Kaz, Inej, Rhys, Azriel! 😀
But honestly great names. I love that you named one of your cats after another cat! Also that’s a great little story about Tiberius the cat as well, especially considering the new owners kept the name after the adopted him.
Great picks for this week Melissa! 😀

Most of my pets actually consist of stray cats that I, despite my parents protests, started caring for and claimed 😂🙈. And then everyone falls in love with them so they get to stay. I’m all for getting more pets! I feel like you can never have too many. (Mostly. I think there is a point where you have too many haha.)
I actually wish that I could foster kittens again for the purpose of naming them after those four. Although it would also be great because I’d be helping them get new homes. 😊
I was so happy that they kept the name. We actually get regular pictures of him as well since the people who adopted him are friends of my moms.
Thank you, Beth! 😊

Ahh, I’d never be allowed to bring stray cats home, mainly because my dog would hate them and would try and attack them but just because we’re not really a cat family you know. I love them but I don’t see myself ever owning a cat or anything.
It’s very easy to fall in love with pets I think, I love all animals pretty much the instant I see them!
Just have a hoard of kittens following you around, each named after different book characters! That’d actually be pretty amazing! And yeah I guess it’s great finding them homes as well.
Aww that’s so nice, and you must love seeing the pictures as well, even though you don’t own him anymore you’re still seeing him grow up I guess! 😀
That’s all right. ❤

I get that. My family is mainly a dog family as well and then there’s me who is the odd one out and loves cats the most. I force them to love them. 😂
It really is. When I was little I actually wanted to open an animal sanctuary.
Yes! That would be great 😂. I can just imagine it haha.
Yep I love seeing pictures of him. He is huge now. It’s great considering when he was born I wasn’t sure if he would live. 😊

Honestly I’m just an animal person but my whole family is mainly dog people because that’s pretty much all we’ve ever had.
I used to want to be a vet when I was younger! 😀
Oh that is amazing, it must have been so worth while seeing him able to be adopted and also getting so huge now when you thought he would make it at first! 🙂

I used to want to be a vet at one point too 😂. Then I realized I wouldn’t be able to handle a animal that is sick or hurt professionally because I’d either get sick or really upset. I commend vets because they’re able to be so professional even though I know they have to hate seeing hurt animals as well.
It really was. 😊

Yeah that was kind of my thought process as well. I love animals but I wouldn’t be able to handle them sick or losing them or anything like that. It must be a really hard job at times.

Thanks for reminding me that I wanted to read Iron Fey. I totally forgot about that. I’m going straight to Goodreads after this so I don’t forget. Ha! Kaz the Kitten. Lol How funny would that be? You need to make sure he’s a sneaky one before you name him. 😂😎 And Katniss for sure. I love her! 😍

That series is great. I hope you enjoy it. 😊
Yes! It would be the best haha. Kaz the sneaky kitten. Now I want another cat but if I got one my parents would not be happy 😂. Same. 😊

It’s on my official TBR now! 🙂 Ha! Yeah, Kaz the kitten would definitely have to be a shady cat. 😂

Nice! I love all of the names you picked, especially Luna. I’m going to have to do better in the future with naming my pets. I don’t currently own any but my past dogs names were lacking in the creativity department haha! I’m now sitting here making a list of book characters I’d love to name my future dog after…

Character names are always my go to for pets because I’m terrible at coming up with my own names lol.
