That’s A Wrap! Reading, Reviews, and What’s Ahead | September-October

WRAPUPSEPT.pngSeptember went by so fast that I didn’t even realize today was going to be October 1st until last night. Oops.

September was a million times better than August! It was also a really busy month, however. I didn’t get through all of my TBR like I had hoped I would because school and work kind of took over my life. But I did get through all of the review books for NetGalley that I needed to. I breathed a giant sigh of relief once I did and then proceeded to ban myself from ever going click happy on there again 😂. We’ll see if that actually happens though haha. September was also my six-month blogiversary which was really exciting! If you’ve not yet entered the giveaway I’m hosting in honor of it be sure to check it out as there are only two weeks left to do so. ♥

-Favorite Read-

I seem to have read books all over the rating spectrum this past month and so I think my favorite is obvious, Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig! That book is incredible guys. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so into a book. It was gripping and gasp-worthy and the ending was really shocking. Seriously, if there is one book you read/buy in October it should be this one. I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy! I’m already planning to reread it.

This month it is a tie between both of the Q&A posts I did for my blogiversary. Everyone asked such fun questions and I loved answering them! Thank you again to all of the lovely bloggers who took the time to send me questions. ♥

I stuck to my whole only buy books you’re going to read in the near future book buying ban! (But then I spent money on candles, my first OwlCrate, and other bookish things so my bank is still weeping. 🙈😂)

The good thing is that most of the books I did buy were Kindle Daily Deals books so they were cheap and that makes me happy!

IT’S OCTOBER! I love October, not only because it’s my birth month, but because of Halloween. I have to admit that I didn’t always love it because when I was little I was terrified of people in costume so Halloween was my own personal nightmare brought to life. But now I can’t get enough of it! October means the weather finally starts to cool off a bit in Texas, all of my favorite childhood movies start playing on TV, and pumpkin carving.

Plus, there are so many incredible books being released this month! I’m excited. 😃

I’m going into October without a TBR. I have a general list of books that I want to read before the year is over so I think I’m going to be skipping actually making a TBR each month because, besides the few books I have to read for reviewing purposes, I’m just going to go with whatever I’m in the mood to read.

Currently, I’m reading Six of Crows and from there I’m going to jump into Crooked Kingdom. But after that who knows? I’m planning on Throne of Glass but it could change.

Again, don’t forget to check out my giveaway as it ends on the 15th of October! 😊

  1. Ahhh somehow I completely missed your blogiversary! And I honestly thought I was following you already, but apparently not??? Maybe it’s WP screwing up with my subscriptions again. Sorry about that. D:

Anyway, that has been fixed now. I’m super excited for you to read ADSOM – that series is likely one of my favourite fantasy series ever and THE FEELS ARE REAL. It’s probably a good time to pick it up as well because the third book is coming out in Feb, so not too long anymore now.

And I hope you like Three Dark Crowns! I have my issues with it, but I like it enough to want to continue the series. 🙂

    • It’s okay! I’ve had that happen to me a few times lately as well. So many WP glitches. 😣
I’m really excited to read it! I’ve read review after review over the past several months and when it went on sale for Kindle I impulse bought it lol. I plan on trying to get to it and the second book before Feb but if not I’ll just binge all three of them once the third one is out 🙈. So many books I want to read before the end of the year but so little time to actually read them haha.
      I hope so too! 😊

  2. I’m reading Six of Crows this week as well. I’m doing my second buddy read. What day is your birthday? I need to write it on my calendar. I keep forgetting things with the move and everything. 🙂 Good thing I planned out posts two weeks in advance. I also forgot it was October. Lol I read and reviewed so many books last month that they’re overlapping into my horror month. 😂 I have so many things planned that I still need to work on. I swear it still feels like September. I went crazy at the dollar store today buying Halloween and fall decorations. Great place for Instagram stuff! I’m planning to read Three Dark Crowns this month. I think it fits well with my theme this month. We need to chat about Six of Crows after I finish it. 🙂

    • I’ve never done a buddy read. I need to at some point though because it seems like fun! My birthday is on the 27th 😊. Lol that’s understandable. Did everything go good with the move? I know some parts of Florida are getting a ton of rain right now (or are going to) because of that hurricane 😖. Two weeks in advance!? You’re way more organized than me, I fail at the planning in advance part of blogging haha. I was actually at the dollar store a few weeks ago and if it wasn’t for the fact that I didn’t have money on me at that time I would have gone crazy with Halloween/fall stuff too 😂. I need to go back and see what they still have. I hope you enjoy Three Dark Crowns! And we definitely need too. THIS BOOK! I’m on part three and it’s getting really good. I fell asleep reading last night because I couldn’t put it down. 🙈

      • We should totally do a buddy read. You’ll have to let me know what’s on your TBR. You’re right before Halloween, my favorite holiday. 🎃💀👻🕸 Yeah, I made it here in one piece. Everything is going well, apart from the nighttime rain we’ve had the last few days. I was planning to go in the pool today before it rains again. 🙂 I’ve never planned this far ahead, but I read so many books last month I’m still playing catchup on my reviews. Oh that’s good to hear. I’m glad you’re liking it. I’m reading Behind Closed Doors right now. It’s the same way for me. I’ll be done this before dinner, and then I’ll start on Six of Crows. 🙂

      • We so should! I have a giant fantasy TBR at the moment haha. Mainly Throne of Glass, An Ember in the Ashes, Crooked Kingdom (after SoC), A Darker Shade of Magic, and etc. I was actually supposed to be born on Halloween but apparently I was too impatient for that 😂. When’s your birthday? That’s good! I’m glad everything went smoothly 😊. I keep seeing everyone pick up Behind Closed Doors and love it. I’m going to have to check that one out along with all of the other thrillers I keep adding to my TBR. I really want to start branching out into that genre more. And I hope you end up liking Six of Crows as much as I am. I can’t wait to see what you think! 😊

      • I would read Crooked Kingdom with you. I’m reading Six of Crows now and finished Throne of Glass last week. I also need to read ADSOM, but we’re not reading that until next month for my book group. Haha! My niece’s birthday is on Halloween. Mine is May 7th. Yeah, I loved Behind Closed Doors. It’s so good. 🙂 I’m liking it so far. I’m only 35 pages in but the premise is interesting.

      • That would be awesome! Would you be okay not reading it until the week of the 17th though? I’d completely understand if you want to jump straight into it given how crazy Six of Crows is (I’m nearly finished and 😱). I’m forcing myself to put it off until the week of the 17th because next week is the last week of my English class and I have to finish revisions for my final. So far this week I’ve gotten next to nothing done because I’m so into this book and I know I don’t want to get distracted with the next one during my last week of this class 😂. Your birthday is the day before my little sister’s, which I always remember because she shares a birthday with Katniss lol. The random tidbits of information I remember from books haha.

      • November 17th works for me. I’ll mark it down on my calendar. 🙂 Wait until you see my TBR post on Thursday for October. I’ll need some time to recuperate. Ha! I totally forgot about Katniss’ birthday. lol I love that series so much. 🙂

      • Great! I’ll do the same 😊. You’re gonna have to explain to me how buddy reading exactly works though since I’ve never done one before 🙈. Lol you’re doing a lot of horror books for October, right? I need to work in a scary read somewhere. Same! I want to make time to reread it sometime. 😊

      • For the buddy read, we read the book at the same time and talk about it with each other as we read. Then we mention each other’s reviews when we post them. That’s what I did last time with Nevernight. Drew and I posted our reviews on the same day and gave each other the links to our reviews to add to our own reviews. Yeah, I’m reading horror, mystery, and I also decided to add books with a dark tome.

    • Thank you!! ♥
It was an incredible book 😊. I can’t wait to get to both of those! I think I’m going to wait until the last book is out before I pick up ADSOM though because I heard the second book has a cliffhanger 🙈.
The Grisha trilogy is amazing and so far Six of Crows is even better. I hope you enjoy them whenever you get to them. 😊

  3. Great recap Melissa, I definitely need to read Last Seen Leaving soon, same with Dancing in the Rain. I’ve read both your reviews and they really made me want to pick up the books as well! It’s great you made it through you September TBR list as well, I don’t bother much with TBR for individual months but I have one for October! 😀
Also that’s a pretty impressive book haul as well! I keep seeing Tales of the Peculiar in my local bookshop and I am always so so tempted to pick it up its unbelievable! I really hope you enjoy the others too A Darker Shade of Magic is one of my all-time favourite series, and a few of the others have been favourite reads of mine as well! 🙂

    • Thank you, Beth!! ♥
Both of those are such great books. Especially Last Seen Leaving! That one has got me wanting to pick up more thrillers. I can’t wait to see what you think of both of them when you do read them. 😃
I think I’m going to stop doing TBRs unless it’s review books lol. I went into this month thinking I was going to conquer Throne of Glass but now it’s Six of Crows and possibly some horror/mystery books. I still might throw in ToG but I’m not too sure. Mood reading strikes again! 😂
I really like the freedom of not having a monthly TBR this month.
You should get it! Once your book buying ban is over anyway. Or before you know it wouldn’t mean you were breaking your ban per say 🙈. Don’t listen to me. I’ve shattered my book buying ban this month because of my birthday and I’m being a bad influence 😂. It really is such a gorgeous book though! I hope I enjoy them too. Especially ADSOM. Everyone talks about how much they love it and I can’t wait to read it!

      • That’s all right!
Hopefully I’ll be able to get around to both before the end of the year but no promises. The year is going so quickly I feel like before I know it it will be time for a December recap! But I’ll have reviews up as soon as I finish each.
Yeah as a mood reader they don’t normally work for me, I manage to have a TBR for the first half of the month but the second half is normally whatever I feel like picking up. I hope you enjoy the Throne of Glass books, they’re quite good as well! 😀
I am buying a few books here and there, my book buying ban is more of a ‘manage my spending’. I’m still pre-ordering books and I guess I want to make sure I don’t go too crazy! 😀

      • I know right? And then before we know it it’ll be New Years. At the same time it might be kind of a good thing because then the next thing we know The Song Rising will be out and we can read it. 🙈
        I hope so too!
I’m back to doing the same after this month. 😊
