Book Thoughts: The Song Rising First Teaser + Veronica Roth New Book, Cover Reveal, & Synopsis

It’s only 9am and already an exciting day for great book news! Although one part happened while I was sleeping, ah timezones. It’s not even halfway through 2016 and all of the book releases that has brought/will bring and I’m already eagerly anticipating 2017 and the book releases it is going to bring.

Version 2

I can’t even being to articulate how much in love I am with Samantha Shannon’s The Bone Season series. The synopsis for the first book drew me in and then while reading the book the whole world she created latched on and didn’t let go. I picked up the first book around a year before the second books release and devoured it in three days. Honestly if you’ve not yet read this series and you love a book with a strong female heroine,  a cast of characters each so unique you’ll never forget about them, a world that is so corrupt yet compelling at the same time to the point where you want to dive in a learn everything you can about it, and characters that have interesting powers then go pick it up. That’s honestly not even half of what these books are they’re so much more than that, I’m just terrible at book recommendation summaries.

Synopsis for The Bone Season (source):

“The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.”

Now for the first teaser for book three, The Song Rising, that Samantha Shannon posted on her twitter….

Those of you who have read the first two books know that The Song Rising was supposed to be released this year but was pushed back until March 2017. Which is torture after The Mime-Order’s ending. THAT CLIFFHANGER AND PLOT TWIST! However, at the same time that just means The Song Rising is probably going to be a million times better than we’re anticipating. Still torture waiting for it though.

So far we’ve gotten a small synopsis; (source)

“On the eve of a new decade, after two hundred years of Scion rule, a revolution is beginning. Its unlikely cradle is the clairvoyant underworld in London, and even an old ally’s betrayal cannot stop it.

But an enemy from Paige Mahoney’s past is about to return – an enemy that could quench the flame of hope for good . . .”

And now this lovely teaser! Which I’ve been freaking out over. I know, I know it’s not much but when you’ve been waiting for a book for over a year it’s amazing. It makes me that much more excited for this book. I need it! I don’t think I can wait until 2017. THE SUSPENSE! I’m terrible at waiting for books.

Now we need a cover. I can’t wait until they do a cover reveal for this! I’m eagerly anticipating it and will probably post a freak out over it on here when they do.

Version 2

I had heard that Veronica Roth, author of one of my favorite series (a series I’ve still not recovered my heart from), was working on something new. Although this is the first I’ve really seen information wise about the book. I guess they decided to just dump it out all at once? We got a title, cover revel, fuller synopsis, and a full excerpt just this morning! Who else is rolling in excitement right now?

I mean look at that cover! It’s absolutely gorgeous. Veronica Roth’s new book has been titled Carve The MarkIt’s going to be a scfi, fantasy, violence, and vengeance kind of story. Which is exactly my piece of cake lately!

The synopsis has definitely intrigued me (source);

“On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not — their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power — something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuve, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive — no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive — or to destroy one another.”

Carve the Mark is set to be released January 17th, 2017. I for one am extremely excited and can’t wait to get my hands on another book by the wonderful Veronica Roth. Here’s to hoping she won’t completely smash my heart again! Who am I kidding, I’ll probably love it even if she does.

The excerpt from Carve the Mark that was released can be found on EW (here).

What books are you guys excited for that are going to be released in 2017? Besides these two I’m most anticipating Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare! Especially after the ending for Lady Midnight. 2017 is just too far away!
